Director of Communications




Student Voice is the nation’s leading by-students, for-students nonprofit and has been recognized by numerous national publications such as The New York Times, The Washington Post, ThinkProgress and USA Today. Joining the team at Student Voice means you will be entering a unique, transparent, and fast-paced work environment. You will join our team in empowering students to take action on issues that impact their education, providing them with the resources and mentorship they need to create local change.

As the Director of Communications, you will work with the Director of Marketing and the Communications team with the ideation and execution of all communication initiatives. The ideal candidate must be obsessed with building networks strategically, reaching out to partners and valuing relationships to position Student Voice as the leader of the movement of young people revolutionizing education. Generating conversation about existing and new student voice happenings will help our work grow rapidly. The ability to communicate effectively in written and oral communications is a must. The communications director will be our spokesperson.


  • Lead the concept development, production, and distribution of all promotional and communications efforts, including print/physical, digital (email, social media), media campaigns, and press initiatives
  • Develop rich written content aimed at telling the story of Student Voice and engaging audiences
  • Work in partnership with the Director of Marketing, the Communications team, and third-party vendors on the creation, management, and publication of assets and collateral
  • Set the vision for the Communications team in alignment with brand, awareness, engagement, fundraising, new partnerships, and operational goals
  • Be a servant leader for Student Voice, the wider student voice movement, and the U.S. student community as a whole


  • A high school or college student with at least 15 hours/week of dedicated work time
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience developing successful presentations
  • A positive can-do spirit and passion for the nonprofit sector
  • Self-motivation and an eye for detail with enthusiasm for juggling multiple tasks
  • Comfortable working with a remote team
  • Experience with Google Drive, Slides, Docs, Sheets, and MailChimp
  • Experience working with Twitter, Facebook, Facebook pages, LinkedIn, and Instagram
  • Knowledge of thought leadership topics in the sector such as nonprofit building, education, education inequity, and the Student Bill of Rights
