The Student Voice Journalism Fellowship engages 18 high school students who are passionate about using storytelling as a vehicle for social change. Over the course of a school year, fellows tell the stories of their schools through the lens of the Student Bill of Rights and grow as writers and communicators.

Can I apply to the Student Voice Journalism Fellowship if I am not in high school?

No, only high school journalists can apply to be a journalism fellow.

Do I need previous journalistic experience to apply?

Though the application asks you to elaborate on any past experience you have and requires you to submit a piece of writing, previous journalistic experience is not necessary to apply. Ultimately, applicants will be selected based on their potential, not their prior qualifications in journalism.

Is the journalism fellowship a paid position?

The journalism fellowship is not paid, but all equipment and travel costs for assignments will be reimbursed.

I just applied! When will I be notified about the status of my application?

Applicants will be notified regarding application decisions on Monday, August 26th.


Tour Across America's Schools Coverage

The Journalism Fellowship is a cohort of high-school-aged, young people passionate about using storytelling as a vehicle for social change. Over the course of a school year, fellows have access to industry mentors and participate in group workshops to craft narratives about their diverse academic experiences. By producing multimedia content, the fellowship amplifies student voices in the broader educational dialogue nationwide.
