AUSTIN, TX — Next week, Student Voice will bring students, activists and education influencers together at SXSWedu to discuss issues surrounding diversity and inclusion, technology in the classroom and leadership in schools.

Students Unfiltered: Digital in the Classroom, featuring SV’s Executive Director Zak Malamed in partnership with Cengage, looks to examine the increasing importance of technology in the classroom and how it impacts students. The conversation looks to explore what students want and don’t want from digital experiences in hopes of increasing engagement.

Students on Diversity and Inclusivity in Schools is an all student panel aiming to examine the effect of discrimination (based on differences in race, socioeconomic status, gender, sexual orientation etc.) on student life. Panelists include Andrew Brennen, Cristal Cruz, and Dawnya Johnson.

Activating Student Voices features SV’s co-founder and Director of Programming Tara Subramaniam. Active Voices is a campaign created by the Student Press Law Center to build a virtual mentorship community to help young women develop their full leadership potential. This panel will review new research about the adversity girls face, and propose solutions to make the school experience more empowering.

Additionally, SV will be hosting a Students at SXSWedu Meetup. As part of our national Student Voice Tour, we would like to invite students to come network, collaborate and ideate on the role of students in education and what they can do to ensure that all students’ rights are protected in schools.
